1

What are you planning?

Fees are charged per person. This tool covers adult applications only.

2

Knowledge of language and life

Are all applicants aged 65 or over?

People aged 65 or over are normally exempt from both the Life in the UK and language requirements.

Is a long-term physical or mental condition likely to prevent meeting these requirements?

This is not automatic. A qualified medical professional normally needs to provide evidence.

Has everyone already passed the Life in the UK Test?

A pass can normally be reused for citizenship after ILR and does not expire.

Does everyone already have accepted English-language evidence?

This can include a qualifying nationality or degree, a previous accepted result, or route-specific evidence.

3

Your ILR route

Which route are you settling from?

Many Skilled Worker and Health and Care routes use 5 years, but salary and sponsorship rules vary.

Do you meet your route's continuous-residence and absence rules?

Do you meet the other current route requirements?

For example salary and sponsorship, relationship, financial or suitability conditions.

What the estimate includes

The fee on the application page is rarely the whole budget

The calculator starts with the official £3,226 ILR fee and £1,839 adult naturalisation fee. It adds the £50 Life in the UK Test only when your answers suggest it is still needed, and it shows a range for an English test because provider prices vary.

It also keeps optional costs visible: £1,000 super priority for ILR when offered, a £102 first adult passport after naturalisation, and Pass Britain preparation. Legal advice, translations, travel and paid appointment extras remain outside the estimate because they depend on your case.

Frequently asked questions

How much does ILR cost in 2026?

The standard ILR application fee is £3,226 per person from 8 April 2026. The Life in the UK Test is £50 if still needed, and an English test or optional faster service can add to the total. ILR does not carry an Immigration Health Surcharge.

How much does British citizenship cost in 2026?

Adult naturalisation costs £1,839 in total, including the £130 citizenship ceremony fee. A first adult British passport is separate and costs £102 for a standard online application from within the UK.

Do I need to take the Life in the UK Test twice?

No. If you passed the test for settlement, you can normally reuse that pass when applying for citizenship. A Life in the UK Test pass does not expire.

Can this calculator confirm that I am eligible?

No. It screens common adult requirements and costs, but each immigration route has detailed rules. Always check the current GOV.UK guidance for your route or obtain regulated immigration advice before applying.
